The University of Aveiro (UA) is a Portuguese public higher education institution, located in the city of Aveiro. It was created on December 15, 1973 when the then Minister of Education, José Veiga Simão, in the year 1974/1975 declared it open to the public with the Electronics and Telecommunications course and its first 46 students.
In 2011 it was considered one of the best universities in Europe and the best in Portugal. In 2016 the UA was ranked five consecutive times among the 100 best public higher education institutions under 50 years old, according to the Times Higher Education magazine ranking dedicated to higher education.
We also cannot fail to mention the famous Portuguese search engine Sapo, which was created by the University of Aveiro in 1995.
It is really worth visiting this public institution of great national and international renown, which turns out to be one of the great tourist monuments that the city of Aveiro has to offer.
